Calculators in classrooms were going to ruin kids’ ability to do maths.
They’ll never learn to add, multiply, divide, subtract, and do all those other mathematical calculations they never use in real life.
Us teachers got ourselves in a real knot arguing about whether students could have calculators to help do their work. There were protests in the streets (for real!), there were arguments in the staff room – there was much angst.
People always seem to amplify the downside and the upside of any new technology, until it finds its own level over time.
