Writing To Become a Thought Leader

My travels around the internet universe this week took me to the topic of writing. I’m reading Stephen King’s book ‘On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft‘ and that is the best I’ve read on the topic. 📚📚

If nothing else, it highlights that writing stuff down clarifies thoughts and teases out nuances. I feel that I know a lot and have experienced a lot and should be able to let that manifest somehow. And it’s not until I document whatever is preoccupying my mind do I find a theme and a connection and does it make sense. ✍️ ✍️

And once the themes and connections emerge, then it becomes a perspective and in turn, if there are enough of these, it becomes the matter for a Thought Leader.

Certainly, experience brings perspective, but writing them down allows you to template these experiences. ✍️ ✍️

My index cards of things I know are often scattered on the kitchen table (does anyone have dining room tables anymore??) and when rearranged connections can be made.

Steve Jobs 2005 Commencement speech at Stanford Uni spoke of ‘Joining the Dots’ in his life to point to a purpose, and so the same with recording what you know, and then rearranging them until there is a pattern.

A purpose emerges when the dots are joined.

My GemBook Journal this week also included:
– a Cattle Branding rabbit hole
– overfocussing on spelling and grammatical errors is like being a poison sniffer (see the movie ‘Ratatouille‘)
– some great rules from ‘Win Without Pitching‘ ie ‘don’t solve a problem until you are paid.’)
